A Punta Cana Wedding at Paradisus

Last week Darryl and I traveled to the all-inclusive Paradisus resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic for our friends Mindy and Marty’s wedding. You might recognize Mindy from my vlog on Anusara yoga.

Our trip started out a little rough as our 6am flight out of Toronto was delayed until 4pm. We entertained ourselves and everyone else in the airport by doing yoga and hula-hooping while we waited for our flight.

We arrived in Punta Cana late so we went straight to bed as soon as we got there. The next morning we got up early to explore the hotel.

The Paradisus resort is breathtaking. It’s built on native mangrove forests and every building is surrounded by beautiful tropical gardens. It didn’t take us long to set up camp on the beach, which is scattered with cute little tiki huts for shade. We spent the majority of our days doing yoga on the silky white sand.

After a couple days we were craving adventure so we went ziplining. We took a VERY bumpy ride on a safari truck into the hills to the 12 ziplines. Here’s a quick vid of me ziplining:

We spent a couple more days at the beach and then it was time for the wedding. The ceremony took place in a gazebo by the water. Darryl was the best man and I was one of Marty’s groomsmen. The vows were short but sweet and there were many tears shed. I was so unbelievably happy and grateful that Marty asked me to be in the wedding party. I was even happier that I didn’t have to wear a dress!

Mindy looked gorgeous, as usual!

After the wedding we enjoyed a nice dinner at one of the resort’s twelve restaurants. The food was amazing at Paradisus although since none of the a la carte restaurants offered any vegetarian dishes, we ate at the buffet for almost every meal. I was in heaven from all the different fruit dishes, the mashed bananas being my favorite.

All in all I would highly recommend Paradisus Punta Cana for your next vacation. I can’t wait to go back!

Oh my goodness, we LOVE everything about this ;) ! (Hayden was particularly fascinated with the zip line… and we were waiting for Darryl’s commentary a la “double rainbow” of the maiden voyage.)

Please send them congrats from the Kelley clan back in Boston.

    Much love to you all…

Gotta love the fact that you guys were doing yoga and hula while you were waiting for your plane! That’s awesome. Just imagine the positive affect you had on everyone around you…

The resort looks so beautiful. I could use some silky white sand right about now! ^^

Thanks so much for sharing your adventure with us, KB. I’m curious, if I wanted to make some mashed bananas of my own, is there more to it than just mashing the bananas? (i’ve never had mashed bananas before)

I will be posting the banana recipe this week.. after trial & error in the kitchen I realized they were not bananas at all but plantains! :o )

    Hello KB,

Thank you for sharing your pictures and review of your wonderful wedding week. I recently got engaged and am considering Paradisus for my destination wedding. I’d love to hear more about your experience. I’m mainly interested in your thoughts on the food, my new mother in-law is a vegetarian and your last comment has me a bit worried.

Thank you in advance for your reply!

    Hey India,
The food was amazing at Paradisus although we ate only at the buffets. 6 of us that attended the wedding are vegan and we found more than enough to eat. It was disappointing that none of the restaurants offered vegetarian food but I’m sure they could make something for your mother-in-law!
I would highly recommend paradisus for your wedding. We were just reminiscing about it this evening!
