Save the Planet Humans

“Good thought, right thought, loving thought will be the salvation of the human race.”
~ White Eagle

Today is Earth Day. In celebration, I’d like to share some thoughts with you about how to “save the planet“, or more importantly, how to “save the humans“.

When I was a kid, one of my favorite books was called “50 Simple Things Kids Can Do To Save The Earth”. I diligently read all the environmentally friendly tips in the book and shared them with my parents and my friends at school. I guess it’s no surprise that this book is still in print almost 20 years later, in a culture where being eco-friendly has become trendy. Today, huge corporations are scurrying to “green” all their products, in order to maintain sales. Handsome television hosts convince you to make your contribution to one million acts of green. And heaven forbid if you run into someone you know on a day when you’ve forgotten your eco-friendly shopping totes at home. Plastic bags are so 2006.

I willingly and lovingly participate in the “green circus”. I have a lovely set of reusable shopping bags. I have a huge compost bin in my backyard. I use CFL light bulbs. I stick to a vegan diet as much as possible. I recycle. I buy eco-friendly household products. I buy $6 toothpaste because I don’t want to support the polluters that make .98 cent toothpaste. I work at home. I wash my clothes in cold water and hang them to dry. I use a programmable thermostat. I use a low flow shower head. I use a refillable coffee cup. I use a refillable water bottle.

I could go on. But you get the idea. Therefore, it may come as a surprise to you that I don’t believe in “Saving The Planet”.

The planet in no way needs us to “save it”. This ridiculous notion is an insult to her intelligence. The magnificent, beautiful, divinely radiant being that we live upon has survived for over 4.5 billion years, and will probably survive for another 7.5 billion more. The humans who continue to wreak havoc upon her surface however, will not survive. Mother Earth could shake us off like a wet dog any day now. It’s in our best interest to shift our focus from saving the planet to “saving the humans”.

To save the humans we must do more than just carry around a Sigg bottle and drive a Prius. We must uncover and heal the state of consciousness that allowed us to mistreat the Earth in the first place. Defensive thoughts of hatred, fear, rage, greed, and separation are the true cause of environmental catastrophe, and if they exist in the world as a whole then they also exist in you. Each person on the planet is a holographic part connected to the whole – we are cells in the body of humanity. Transforming our consciousness on an individual level is the only path towards creating sustainable and permanent change. When we heal the roots of our problems from a higher state of awareness than we were at during the point of their creation, we will create a world that works for everyone. External action is obviously still important. But long lasting external action that supports the planet will happen naturally as a result of transforming ourselves inwardly, because it transforms us into harmony with Life.

In the great Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu wrote:

“If there is to be peace in the world,
there must be peace in the nations.
If there is to be peace in the nations,
there must be peace in the cities.
If there is to be peace in the cities,
there must be peace between neighbors.
If there is to be peace between neighbors,
there must be peace in the home.
If there is to be peace in the home,
there must be peace in the heart.”

Saving humanity begins with you. It involves facing negative thoughts of fear, doubt, worry, greed, anger, and resentment and then healing them. It involves knowing who you are beyond your body and realizing your connection to the whole. It involves waking up and then utilizing your gifts to wake others up.

Perhaps I’ll write a book on how to save the humans entitled “50 Things Humans Can Do to Save Themselves”. In the meantime, don’t forget your eco-friendly shopping bags. ☺

KB That is awesome. I once met a Shaman that laughed as he said, “The Earth does not need to be saved. To think that humans can save the planet is obsurd. We are like flies on the back of Mother Earth and at some point if we get to be too much for her, She will shake us off.” Great Stuff KB.
