If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you already know that for the past few years I’ve been involved with many different projects.

I’ve done people’s makeup. Made dog collars. Sung songs. Done arts & crafts. Written blogs. Written books. Made videos. Created websites.

I’ve given psychic readings. Angel readings. Social media consultations. Search engine optimization consultations. Raw food classes.

I’ve eaten vegetarian food. Vegan food. Raw vegan food. Omelets.

I’ve tried a lot of different things. Some of them have been very successful. And some of them have been… not so successful.

I’m sure you can relate. What area of your life is a bit spazzy? Maybe it’s your health – is your weight up and down? Or your relationships – have you been through a ton of breakups?

Obviously we all have the option of looking these events as “failures”, as many people do. But lemme ask ya, what good is that going to do?

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Viewing yourself or your life as a “failure” is pointless. It’s like driving around a roundabout with no intention of getting off. All it does is create more “failure” to whine about.

So from this day forward, promise me you’ll never view your life as a failure again. Instead, you’re going to look at your life as if it were a PETRI DISH.

Life as a Petri Dish

A Petri dish is a little dish that scientists use to do experiments in. They take the results of these experiments to do more experiments. Then they take the results of THOSE experiments and do even MORE experiments. There is literally no end to the experiments.

What I am suggesting is that you start to view the circumstances of your life as EXPERIMENTS instead of “failures”. What did those 25 failed relationships teach you? You probably gained a lot of CLARITY as to the kind of person you really want to be with. You wound up with a ton of RESULTS to your experiments. Going forward, you can use those results to create BETTER experiments (relationships).

The truth is that viewing your life as a failure creates a lot of emotional goo in your system that you just don’t need. But viewing your life as an experiment dissolves the goo so you can GET ON WITH IT and have fun.

As I was pondering all this, I came across a diagram on Facebook that perfectly depicts my career path:

Yes, my life often looks like a scribble. But I’ve learned something from each and every one of those scribbles. And I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

It’s day 16 of my passive income experiment. I can’t help but smile at the word “passive”. It’s been anything BUT passive. Perhaps I should re-name it, the “work-my-ass-off-until-I-get-a-sore-throat” income experiment. That sounds more like it.

But I’m not complaining. In fact I’m super-duper excited about it. It’s reminiscent of the days when I was first starting Dogma London (now sold)… learning new skills and growing at lightning speed. I’m excited to share what I’ve created thus far.

Tuning In to an Idea

When I wrote the first post about this experiment 2 weeks ago, I honestly had no idea what my new site would be about. So I did what I always do – I tuned into my intuition.

Almost immediately I received a crystal clear vision of a purple website with an angel on the left hand side. This saved me a ton of time, as I knew immediately that it was in my best interest to create a niche site about angels.

My initial idea was to create a database of angels, their descriptions and how to pray to them. I even did the keyword research, bought a domain name and started executing the idea… but something didn’t feel quite right.

Setbacks!

By this time, I had been working on the site for over a week, had completed a large amount of work and even watched the site jump from a rating of 13 million to 6 million on Alexa. But upon noticing my not-so-great feelings, I went back to the drawing board to do a little more keyword research.

When I looked over my keywords I realized I had somehow overlooked the CPC (cost per click) estimates on Google. Which means that even though I would’ve received a lot of traffic, the advertisers wouldn’t have paid me much moo-lah for their clicks.

Luckily I found another keyword phrase that I felt much better about. I then purchased a new domain name and started all over again.

Angels All Around Me

This is a little off-topic, but I feel like mentioning that as soon as I started working on this project I began to notice an extremely large gathering of spiritual beings around me. It felt like I was in a crowded etheric elevator, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the CEO’s of heaven. On certain days, the sensation of being watched was so strong that I would actually turn around to see if there was anyone standing in my doorway.

The weirdness did not stop there. During the first week of this project, my cousin posted a video interview of my grandma from 1996 (who passed away in 2001). I almost jumped out of my seat when she started talking about angels and how much Karen loves them!

It was a phase of my life that I had forgotten – my “angel phase”. I was angel-obsessed. I had angel figurines, angel cards, angel books, and angel posters. One summer when I went away to summer camp, my mom re-decorated my room with an angel theme. I really had a “thing” for angels.

And I now have a “thing” for angels all over again, thanks to my not-so-passive-income angel website.

3 Magic Questions (Niche Website Pre-Requisites)

Moving along. As I began to work on the site, I came up with three important questions that everyone should ponder when creating a niche website:

A) Do I LOVE the subject matter??
B) Does it provide value and service to others?
C) Do I think I can create a site that is just as good if not better than my competitors?

If you haven’t noticed, there’s a lot of crap on the internet. I think it’s about time we quit adding crap and start adding value. If everyone who thought about building a website answered “YES” to these three questions, the internet would look more like a glittery sunflower field and less like an episode of Hoarders.

Also, building a niche site is A LOT of work in the beginning, especially if it’s your first attempt. There’s a lot to learn. If you’re not passionate and service-oriented, there’s a good chance you will quit before you witness any kind of monetary reward.

My Niche Site: The Reveal…

By now you’re probably wondering what the heck this angel site is all about. Or not. It depends if you have a “thing” for angels.

Basically I built a site that offers free angel card readings any time of the night or day. It’s also useful for people who are shopping for angel cards, as the “free angel card readings” show sample cards from each deck.

I debated whether or not to include my services as an angel card reader on the site, since intuitive readings are not really passive income. In the end I decided to include it as a service for now, knowing that I can always remove it or hide the page if need be.

I also started a new twitter account which will enable me to offer free angel card readings via twitter (which I’m sure the #askKB fans will be happy about). I’ll probably offer them Tuesdays from 3 – 4, but keep an eye on the @angelmsnger account for details.

Next Steps…

Now that the site is (almost) finished, I’ll be shifting my focus to blogging, social media marketing and off-site search engine optimization. Stay tuned for the next chapter of the passive income experiment, and don’t forget to visit my new site daily for your free angel card reading!!

with angelic Love & appreciation,

I’m a big advocate of following one’s intuition. This is because when I follow my intuition, things go well. When I don’t follow my intuition, things go… not so well.

Therefore when I’m giving other people advice, I often get the urge to shake them and scream, “FOLLOW YOUR INTUITION!!!”. Unfortunately some people find this frightening. The other drawback is that not everybody knows what “intuition” is.

The dictionary defines intuition as “the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning”. That’s an accurate description, but let me take it a bit further.

Intuition is guidance that arises from that part of you that is more than your physical body. Mystics call this part of you your spirit, soul, or higher self. Quantum physicists might describe it as your energetic field.

In any case, you are more than just a physical body; you are part of a larger energy field. This energy field is not limited by time or space and is connected to everything in existence. Because it is connected to everything, its WIDSOM is unparalleled. This wisdom communicates to us through our intuition.

Intuition is sometimes described as the “still, small voice”, but it doesn’t usually communicate with you in words. In fact it almost always communicates to you via your emotions, which is why many people describe intuition as a “gut feeling”.

Can you think of a time when you “felt” something was wrong? My most memorable intuition story happened a few years ago. I was hanging out with my dad in Arizona, and we decided to go to Mexico for the day to buy silver and play with chihuahuas. But when we got to the border, we both felt “off”. There was a layer of “dread” in the air that felt thicker than fog. Even my dad, who is not exactly the psychic type, had a bad feeling about spending the day in Mexico. So even though we had already paid for parking and driven 2 hours to get there, we ended up turning around and driving right back to our hotel.

Obviously I can’t prove that something bad would have happened had we crossed the border to Mexico that day. But the most interesting thing about the experience was that my dad picked up on the bad vibes even though he does not make an effort to tune into his intuition on a regular basis. Also, we had taken day trips to Mexico in the past with no problems, so I knew that our feelings weren’t a result of a previous negative experience.

Ever since that day, I’ve thought of my intuition as an inner coach or counselor that I can call upon at any time. I trust it knows what’s best for me because it can see the big picture.

What I’d love for you to understand is that THINKING LESS and INTUITING MORE can solve all of your toughest problems. Quiet your mind and listen for your intuitive feelings. They really do have all the answers that you’re searching for.

With love,

It’s time for another free gift! But first, an entertaining story.

This week I’ve been thinking a lot about FEAR. Mostly because I keep receiving invitations to give speeches. And despite my drawer full of Toastmasters ribbons, public speaking still freaks me out a little bit (as does the possibility of Snooki becoming a parent, but we’ll save that topic for another post).

So I got to thinking about this fear of public speaking. And what I realized is that I’m not afraid of public speaking at all. Nope, I’m afraid of the FEELINGS that may arise as a result of the public speaking. Which is an entirely different thing altogether.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized that virtually ALL of our fears are just fears of certain FEELINGS. Here are some examples:

Fear of Public Speaking = Fear of feeling rejected

Fear of Intimacy = Fear of feeling vulnerable

Fear of Abandonment = Fear of feeling lonely

Fear of Socializing = Fear of feeling judged

Interesting, isn’t it?

And so getting in touch with the feelings we’re most afraid of, is step one of busting fear. Only then can we begin to generate new feelings to take their place.

Generating new feelings is easier than you think. All you have to do is become more conscious of your thought processes and begin to re-direct them. For example, if you’re afraid of failure, begin to visualize and affirm something that makes you FEEL successful. Create new pictures in your head. It won’t be long before you have brand new feelings that are a result of your new way of thinking.

I personally am visualizing myself receiving standing ovations. I’m amazed at how much more EXCITED I feel about public speaking after 2 minutes of this visualization.

Most people are big on TAKING ACTION to dissolve fear, and I don’t discount that taking action is an important part of the equation. I just think that taking action should come AFTER you’ve begun to re-program your feelings. Otherwise it’s like trying to annihilate a dandelion by plucking off a petal. You gotta pull it out the ROOTS, my friend.

In order to bust some of my own fears, I created a special worksheet. And I’m overjoyed to share it with you, so you can become a fear-buster too. It’s completely free and you can download it by clicking the link below:

THE FEAR-BUSTING WORKSHEET by KB

I’d love to hear if the worksheet helped you become more aware of what you’re really afraid of. Please feel free to leave a comment letting me know what FEELINGS you’ve uncovered and how you’re taking action to bust ‘em.

With love & gratitude!
I know what you’re thinking. “WOW KB, A SINK STRAINER”. How thrilling.

But it’s not just a sink strainer, my friends!! Because it also could be….
A loose leaf tea infuser!!!

Yay! We’ll never have to cut down trees to make tea bags again!!

Disclaimer: Make sure to use a NEW sink strainer for your tea because using the one that’s been in your sink for 10 years would be gross.

Also please note, this brilliant idea doesn’t work so well with rooibos tea because it falls through the holes.

Cheerio!

As you can see, it’s a unicorn galloping across a rainbow with a giant smile on its face.

Most of my art was a spin on this same theme. My pictures always involved rainbows, some sort of mystical creature (the unicorn was always a popular choice), and smiles. Lotsa smiles.

I don’t remember what the psychiatrist thought of my artistic flair. I do remember that this unicorn pic was painted during a time in my life when I was still doing things for fun, rather than doing things to achieve an end result. But eventually I realized that I was no Picasso and I quit drawing & painting altogether, as most children do.

This was around the same time that the adults in my life started suggesting that my future was more important than the present moment. “What do you want to be when you grow up?” they asked me. I responded with a blank stare. “I don’t know”, I thought. “I’m not grown up yet. Do I have to think about that now?”

Looking back on it, there’s no way that I could have predicted my career path at the age of 8. Can you imagine??? “Hey Dad, I want to be a blogger”. There was no such thing as a “blogger” in 1985. Heck, my dad still doesn’t know what a blogger is.

So parents, take note: asking your kids what they want to be when they grow up is a dumb question. There’s no way they’ll be able to predict what kinda crazy jobs are going to exist in the year 2032.

Instead, ask them what they want to do today or better yet, ask them what they want to do for FUN.

And while you’re at it, why don’t you take a moment to ask yourself the very same question. The key to being more fun is to decide what’s fun for you and then, GO DO IT.

Quit living for the future; it doesn’t exist. I know that’s a mind-bender, but the reality is that if you spend THIS moment feeling grateful and happy, the future will take care of itself.

====================

What did you love to draw when you were a kid? Let me know in the comments below. Or better yet, post a pic of your art on my Facebook wall.

Peace, Love & Unicorns!!

I’ve always been a sucker for outer space. In fact one of the first things I remember learning in kindergarten is all of the planet names, in order from Mercury to Pluto (this was back in 1982 kids, when Pluto was still considered a planet).

The reason I love space so much is that it reminds me of how sacred our little planet is. When I see pictures of Earth from space, I immediately get teary. If you could understand my words through the tears you’d probably hear me sobbing, “Earth is so beautiful! So precious!” or somethin’ like that (*blush*).

In 2007 I had the honor of hearing a lecture by Edgar Mitchell, former NASA astronaut and the 6th man on the moon. He talked about the samadhi experience he encountered during his trip home from the moon on Apollo 14. As he gazed out the window at Earth, he was engulfed by a profound sensation “a sense of universal connectedness.” He sensed the wisdom behind all creation and realized that everything in the Universe is conscious. It was because of this experience that Edgar decided to create the Institute of Noetic Sciences.

I can’t help but think of Edgar’s lecture whenever I see photos or videos from space. So when I came across a new space video on Youtube this week, I *almost* broke down into the ugly cry…

Earth!! Isn’t she beautiful???? And oh, so, precious.

I’d like to introduce you to my sister. Her name is Angie and she enjoys reading, knitting, and taking long walks around the block with her new puppy, Samson.

At first glance, you might assume that my sister and I have nothing in common. Her favorite clothing store is Ann Taylor; mine is Betsey Johnson. She opts for honey-coloured highlights; I go for pink. She is highly educated with a Master’s degree in Organized Systems Renewal; I am a proud graduate of the school of rock.

But upon closer examination, you will discover that my sister and I actually have a lot in common. Take our bookshelves for instance – they are virtually identical. David Hawkins, Marianne Williamson, Eckhart Tolle… both of our libraries overflow with the same spiritual and self-help classics. We are both passionate about the evolution of human consciousness.

The reason I find this interesting is that a lot of “spiritual” people feel like the black sheep of their family. No one “gets” them. They feel alone. And yet here I am, with a sister whom I can talk to about present moment awareness, yoga, energy medicine and pretty much any other topic on the “woo woo” list. Pretty cool if you ask me.

I also want to mention that my sister is a brilliant therapist and coach. She just opened up a practice in Toronto, so book an appointment with her if you live in the area. If you don’t live in Toronto, I’m sure she’d offer you a session via Skype if you ask nicely. Click here to visit her website.

On a side note, I just realized that one of the reasons that my sister and I have identical libraries is because we steal each other’s books. So Ang, if you’re done with Three Magic Words, I’ll have it back now.

Lately I’ve been extremely preoccupied with the idea of creating passive income streams. I can’t stop thinking about it. When I go to bed, I’m thinking PASSIVE INCOME STREAMS. When I wake up, I’m thinking PASSIVE INCOME STREAMS. I eat, sleep, and breathe passive income streams.

I blame Costa Rica. Those negative ions really have an effect on you. And ever since I returned home from Costa Rica, I’ve been obsessed with going back. Not just for a week, but for a month. Or two. Or three.

Spending the cold months in the tropics has been a dream of mine for years now. But the reality is, if I want to spend a good chunk of the winter in Costa Rica, I gotta make money while I’m there. So, I could:

A) Grow dreadlocks and sell little doo-dads on the beach… OR…

B) Create a massive passive income stream and spend my time writing, blogging, and writing (with a little yoga and surfing thrown in, of course.)

Well, the votes were cast and the winner is option B. Not because I wouldn’t be great at making doo-dads, because I’m an EXPERT at making doo-dads. But I would probably burn to a crisp and let’s face it; y’all want me to keep blogging, right?

And so… I’ve embarked on a little experiment. It’s a passive income experiment.

I’m creating a new niche website with a spiritual theme. I haven’t decided yet whether to share the URL here on my blog, but I probably will once the site is complete.

The income from this site will be derived mostly from Google Adsense, as well as a few affiliate links. Once the site has been finished, it will require only a small amount of maintenance, probably a blog post or two per week. This will enable me to focus more on creating posts and products for this site (my baby!).

My goal is to have my new site ranked on page one of Google for it’s main keyword by my birthday (March 30). My ultimate goal is to have it ranked in the #1 spot on Google for it’s main keyword phrase, with 40 – 50,000 visitors per month and earning $2000 per month.

The interesting thing about this experiment is that I’m going to be using a wide range of skills to make it happen. I’ll be blogging, designing graphics, marketing, and SEO-ing the site, but I’m also going to throw a bit of metaphysics into the mix. Yup, I’ll be using a combination of prayer, meditation, and visualization as part of the site-building process.

I’m so excited to share this experiment with you because I think it will provide a great example of how to balance energy work with action steps. YES we have to take action to reach a goal, but it’s oh so important to align our energy FIRST. We have to create our desired result energetically (in our minds) before it can become a physical reality.

During my meditation this week, I was shown how our energy shoots out ahead of us and creates what looks to me like energetic “grids” or blueprints. I was then shown how these blueprints become the foundation of our physical reality.

I’ll be using this “energy blueprint theory” as a basis for my passive income experiment. Before I take any action steps, I plan on taking the time to visualize this new site being successful.

If you want to take part in the experiment, come up with your own passive income stream idea and tell me about it in the comments below. Or if you have any SEO tips, feel free to leave them for me as well.

And just remember: laptops + piña coladas make a wonderful combination.

Darryl’s been making a lot of grilled cheeses lately. Which is driving me bonkers because before I cut out dairy from my diet, I used to LOVE a good grilled cheese.

I’ve tried everything to satiate this grilled cheese craving. I made one with a vegan cheese substitute, but it didn’t taste the same. It felt like I was eating grilled plastic.

Eventually I did what any wannabe-vegan-grilled-cheese-loving person would do. I caved. And I ate three grilled cheeses in a week.

Except afterwards I felt icky. REALLY icky. Not in my belly, but in my head. I caught the dreaded dairy-brain-fog. So I vowed to create a vegan sandwich I could eat whilst Darryl eats his goddamn grilled cheese. And here it is.

May I present to you….

KB’s GRILLED UN-CHEESE RECIPE

2 slices of Ezekiel Bread

1 Tbsp Earth Balance Margarine

½ Avocado

Mash the avocado in a bowl. Spread the margarine onto both sides of the bread. Spread the avocado between the bread. Grill it in a pan like you would a grilled cheese. The End.

See? Veganism isn’t so hard after all.
